Many Adults Brush Their Teeth Wrong

Consider Using an Electric Brush

An electric toothbrush will use circular motions to brush your teeth efficiently. This can make it easier to reach all areas of your mouth than if you were trying to brush manually. No matter what you choose as your brush, make sure that you brush in a circular motion and brush for at least 30 seconds in each section of your mouth.

Use Toothpaste With Fluoride

Fluoride is good for your teeth, preventing tooth decay according to some studies. Make sure the paste you use is designed to protect your teeth from early decay while also eliminating debris. Any store that sells toothpaste will feature options with fluoride. Plus, fluoride helps keep your teeth white.

Floss

Many adults don't floss their teeth daily, which can be just as detrimental as not brushing. Food can get caught between teeth, leading to debris that causes bacteria. Daily flossing can prevent cavities from growing between the teeth, prompting a need for fillings and other dental work.

Don't Use Mouthwash After Brushing

If you use mouthwash immediately after brushing your teeth, you are rinsing away fluoride. It is better to drink only water at night once you brush your teeth so that the fluoride can work its magic as you sleep. If you must rinse after brushing, use water instead of mouthwash. Mouthwash is better for after a meal or before you brush.
